| The City of Kettering received an "Access to Recreation Grant" from the Kellogg Foundation and announced they will be renovating Pondview Park. Upgrades will include; handicapp entrance, driveway, parking with turn-around, wheelchair accessibility to the park, pond and trails, new restrooms and much more. In August of 2008 MaryBeth Thaman, Director of Kettering Parks & Recreation contacted Oak Creek Swim Club (OCSC). She presented her vision and asked for our help! The Board and Management from OCSC attended several conceptual design meetings as well as numerous Town Hall meetings explaining everything to the public, especially our neighborhood residents. The Board listened to everyone concerns and made decisions that were right for membership, the neighborhood and Kettering Parks & Recreation! In April 2009, Oak Creek Swim Club entered into a contract with the City of Kettering, Parks & Recreation Department. OCSC donated approximately fifty feet of property adjacent to Pondview Park. The property is unsightly, overgrown and unused. In return, the city agrees to provide OCSC with additional parking at the new park entrance, remove dead vegetation and overgrowth from our property. They will also regrade our property and landscape to flow seemlessly together. Safety is our first concern! I'd ask parents to please speak with their children explaining the dangers in the construction site! Please keep children away from the equipment and contruction area! The City and its' contractors will make every effort to provide temporary barriers to keep everyone away! Please help us keep everyone safe! Construction is slated to begin the end of April. The entrance and parking will be completed by June 1, 2009 weather permitting. There will be other projects underway within the park throughout the summer! I encourage everyone to view the city's plans on the their website. Questions or comments can be directed to Kettering Parks & Recreation, kettprca@ketteringoh.org or to any OCSC Board Member or the General Manager.
